If you didn't know Alec Wohlgroth before, you now know him as the face of the bikers who secured the historic Uetliberg verdict. But Alec doesn't want to be perceived as a fighter. And this writer has known him for a very long time and can confirm that he is not: He's not really one either. "Being proven right is nice, but it doesn't really fit in with biking in nature," he says.

And that's why the Zurich native is now going on the charm offensive. It is the continuation of a habit he has cultivated for many years. Anyone who insults him on the trail and doesn't leave immediately afterwards is engaged in a friendly conversation by Alec. The anger then dissipates fairly quickly. What's new is that the approach has a name, website, flyers, stickers and beer mats. "Zäme uf em Wäg" is the name of the campaign. "Zäme happy" is another slogan. All kinds of trail users shake hands on the subjects. "An initiative for more consideration and respect on the trails," says the flyer. The website promises that with more tolerance, we can get past each other even on the narrowest of trails. There is also a video there that shows how Alec envisions coexistence on the narrow trails.An investment in trail peace

Alec hopes that the flyers, stickers and especially the beer mats, which may soon be available in forest and mountain inns, will win the hearts of people who see mountain bikers as the ultimate enemy. Trail Friends Zurich is already supporting the campaign, and other organizations from outside the bike scene are said to have expressed interest.

Alec has invested between 5,000 and 6,000 francs in the graphics, text, website and video. He is now hoping for donations to help him cover the other costs incurred. This could be a sensible investment for trail bikers. After all, hardened fronts do not help trail bikers, especially not in the current cantonal legislative processes in connection with the federal Cycle Path Act.
