What comes onto the market in limited quantities can be sold at almost any price. CrankBros. does not want to be left behind and is presenting high-end versions of its own lightweight pedals at Interbike in Las Vegas. The top model "Triple Titanium Eggbeater" weighs in at just 128 grams thanks to a lot of titanium ? not bad for a pair of fully functioning clipless pedals. The price? Around 400 euros, which is astronomical to say the least. For the less well-heeled, the "Eggbeaters" will also be available in slightly less sophisticated lightweight versions.

In addition, LOOK is venturing a new experiment in mountain bike pedals, relying on the technology of the "Eggbeaters". The result is called "4x4" and should eliminate the only weakness of the lightweight pedals from CrankBros thanks to the pedal axles running on needle bearings: This is because the plain bearings used, with their modest life expectancy, were clearly the Achilles heel of the original and led to deductions in tests.
