Although there are now a number of other action cams - compact cameras that are suitable for carrying around during sporting activities - GoPro is still synonymous with recording devices of this kind. However, as the makers themselves immediately point out, the pioneers are aware of the competition and have therefore come up with some new ideas.
It is clear that smaller, lighter and slightly more processing power are not enough. With a device like this, it is much more a question of responding to how customers use the GoPro and the resulting requirements. The latest edition is therefore tailored to the needs of flying reporters - sorry, vloggers. Of particular interest are the optionally available "Expansion Mods", an additional housing into which the camera is inserted and which carries a directional microphone and, depending on the version, an additional display or LED light.

This allows the vlogger to speak to his followers while controlling the image section, perfectly illuminating himself in the twilight, his sonorous voice asserting itself against all ambient noise and standing absolutely stable in the image, even when he is bumping down a scree slope on a ladder truck with octagonal wheels.
If we assume that the images in the promotional video were actually all filmed with the GoPro Hero8 and edited exclusively with GoPro software, then the image stabilization really does an amazing job. Other features, both during recording and in post-production, enable cinematic wow effects, provided you have the motifs for them.

The GoPro Hero8 Black can now be pre-ordered directly from GoPro.
The Media, Display and Light Mod will be available for pre-order at the same location from December.
