This spring, the Federal Roads Office FEDRO caused red faces among cyclists: as part of the ambitious "Vision Zero" project, a mandatory helmet requirement for cyclists was once again proposed. In the meantime, the Federal Roads Office may have gone chalk, but it has by no means abandoned its intention: If a majority of cyclists could not be persuaded to wear helmets voluntarily by 2012 with the help of an incentive system, a compulsory system would have to be introduced. Move, like IG Velo, is against making helmets compulsory and fears that this measure would make cycling less attractive as a mode of transport - an undesirable effect from a climate policy perspective. Off-road, however, it goes without saying: helmet on before you set off!
