Every year, the winner of the race around the castle of Montichiari is crowned. This time, there is a good chance that a Swiss rider will make it to the top step of the podium in this classic race. Florian Vogel, Mathias Flückiger and Lars Forster are already in strong form. But the competition is also impressive with Maxime Marotte, Jordan Sarrou, Stephane Tempier and Marco Fontana. The latter shows his ambitions right after the start and rides to a small lead, which he manages to defend just under halfway through the race.

Forster then pushes ahead and pulls away. "That wasn't actually planned. When I realized that I had a gap on my pursuers and my legs were good, I decided to pull away," Forster explains the course of the race. Only the Frenchman Maxime Marotte came close to Forster again, but was not quite able to close the gap. Forster thus wins the Montechiari crown. Local hero Marco Fontana manages to save himself by a few seconds from the emerging Spaniard David Valero in third place.

Mathias Flückiger gets off to a good start and is in the chasing group with Forster at the beginning. But then a defect set him back. He ends up ninth, ahead of Florian Vogel in tenth and Thomas Litscher in eleventh place.

Over three minutes

While the men's race was always exciting, the women's race could almost be described as boring. Linda Indergand showed her strength on the first lap and soon pulled away from her competitors. Her lead grew lap by lap - to over three minutes by the finish.

But things got more exciting behind her. Gunn Rita Dahle-Flesjaa, Maja Wloszczowska and Alessandra Keller form the chasing group. Halfway through the race, the Polish rider Wloszczowska breaks away a little, but crashes heavily and is unable to continue the race. The next breakaway attempt comes from Alessandra Keller. On the penultimate lap, she pulls away from Dahle-Flesjaa and takes second place.
Sina Frei also had a strong race, finishing in sixth place. Jolanda Neff takes eighth place and Corina Gantenbein tenth.

In the juniors, Jorin Gabriel made it onto the podium in third place.
