Anyone who rides a mountain bike regularly places high demands on their gear. A GPS watch must be able to withstand crashes, remain easy to read at all times on the trail, and never falter when navigating. With the launch of the new Fenix 9 series, Garmin addresses precisely these points and elevates its flagship model to a new level of performance. The watches are available in 43-, 47-, and 51-millimeter sizes and come with significant upgrades for rugged outdoor use.

Titanium Case and Brilliantly Bright Display

The highlight of the new lineup is the Fenix 9 Pro. It is the first Fenix model to feature a titanium case. Using a special nano-molding technology, the titanium is bonded to plastic at the molecular level. The result: a watch that is extremely durable, yet thinner in design and feels lighter on the wrist.

Garmin makes no compromises when it comes to the display either. The AMOLED touchscreens in the Pro series boast a brightness of up to 3,000 nits. This ensures that maps and training data remain crystal clear even in direct sunlight in high-alpine terrain. For bikepackers and ultra-endurance riders who have to go days without access to a power outlet, Garmin continues to offer the Pro models as MIP Solar versions. These achieve an impressive battery life of up to 57 days. Handy for everyday use and when setting up a tent in the dark: The proven, built-in LED flashlight now also features a green light mode.

Smoother navigation at trail forks

One of the most important features for cyclists is the map data. Garmin has made significant under-the-hood improvements here: Thanks to 50 percent more RAM compared to the Fenix 8 and an optimized map engine, the map on the watch can now be scrolled up to 30 percent faster. There’s also a new perspective view that displays the terrain ahead in a more three-dimensional way.

“Garmin Epic” and smart pacing on the mountain

On the software side, the Fenix 9 series brings exciting new features for stage riders. The new “Garmin Epic” feature compiles multi-day activities—such as a Transalp or a multi-day enduro race—into one big, cohesive story in the Garmin Connect app. This allows you to analyze performance data and photos from the entire trip together and share them with the community.

On long climbs, the enhanced Stamina features really shine. New Stamina zones and a detailed endurance curve based on your own training history help you manage your energy reserves optimally all the way to the summit without pushing too hard in the red zone.

A safety net in the mountains: inReach included

A new feature that should be of particular interest to touring cyclists in remote regions: Select Fenix 9 Pro models are equipped with Garmin’s inReach technology. Via an LTE and satellite connection, you can send text messages, share LiveTrack data with loved ones, and—in an emergency—send SOS alerts to the 24/7 Garmin Response emergency center—all directly from your wrist, without needing a paired smartphone. Even if the required inReach subscription is paused during the winter, SOS messages can still be sent free of charge for up to 12 months.
