The man is accused of stretching wires across the path in a wooded area between Eberstadt and Grantschen several times between mid-June and early August 2024, in some cases in such a way that mountain bikers could have suffered serious or fatal injuries if they fell. A mountain biker riding along the trail noticed the wires in time and was able to prevent a fall.

Investigations by the Heilbronn criminal police department's Criminal Investigation Department 1, which is responsible for capital crimes, then led to the 59-year-old man from the municipality of Hardthausen, who was searched on Friday morning. Evidence was found and the suspect was arrested. He was brought before a magistrate at Heilbronn district court on the same day. The judge issued the arrest warrant requested by the public prosecutor's office in Heilbronn on suspicion of attempted murder, among other things, and executed it. The man was taken to a correctional facility.
