It takes a lot of bad luck to be hit by a single rock falling into the valley. The 58-year-old mountain biker who suffered this fate last Saturday in the Stubai Valley in Tyrol was also lucky that the boulder, which probably weighed several hundred kilograms, only hit her on the lower leg.

When the German was hit by the stone near Mieders, she knocked her companion over with her. He was only slightly injured. The woman had to be first treated by the mountain rescue team and then ridden to hospital with serious injuries.

What speaks against bad luck as the cause is the fact that a 60-year-old loosened the boulder with an excavator during earthworks, as reported by ORF. From the construction site, the 50 x 50 centimeter boulder fell around 70 meters down onto the forest road on which the two mountain bikers were riding. The accident could have ended much worse.
