The world's best pump track riders came to KwaMashu in South Africa, a vibrant township on the north coast of Durban, to compete for the world titles at the Velosolutions UCI Pumptrack World Championships. After hard-fought races in both the men's and women's categories, mountain biker Ryan Gilchrist from Australia and BMXer Sabina Košárková from the Czech Republic demonstrated exceptional speed, skill and determination to claim the coveted rainbow stripes.

South African Alan Hatherly is leaving the Cannondale Factory Team after four years and is switching to road racing and Team Jayco-Alula. However, the cross-country world champion is not turning his back on mountain biking completely. Hatherly will be riding double-track and competing in the Mountain Bike World Cup races in the colors of the Giant off-road team. Incidentally, Giant is also the supplier of the Jayco-Alula team.
