The Wiriehorn in Bern's Diemtigtal valley is already attracting numerous mountain bikers. The bike park consists of a downhill route, a pump track and a family route. The infrastructure is also ideal: thanks to the large transport capacity of the chairlift, all bike fans can get to the start comfortably, quickly and without waiting times. Bike washing facilities, showers, a barbecue area and much more await bikers at the valley station, where the trails end.

What is still missing, however, is a flowing, easier route that can be ridden by almost anyone. In order to realize such a trail, the Hot-Trail association, together with 120 actively committed patrons and a lot of passion, has been planning the "Wiriehorn freeride trail" project for years. This summer it will finally be realized. The plan is to create a route that is as flowy as possible, with plenty of banked turns and tables - jumps without a ditch in the middle - to ensure that nobody gets bored. The aim is a flowing course, elements that are adapted to each other and a solid and sustainable design.

Building permit in place, financing still pending

The building permit, the consent of the affected landowners and an expert opinion on nature compatibility have already been obtained. Nothing stands in the way of construction starting in summer 2016 - except the financing. Despite countless hours of voluntary work by the association's members, the project cannot be implemented without financial resources.

The total costs amount to 40,000 francs. Hot-Trail was able to secure around half of these costs thanks to its own sponsors and the organization of several downhill races. The association is now still 20,000 francs short. Hot-Trail is now hoping to finance the project thanks to the crowdfunding platform "I believe in you" - the campaign will run for 50 days. In view of the many young mountain bikers in the greater region and the association's good work with young talent, the project is worth every franc.
