The Eisack Valley MTB region stretches from the Brenner Pass southwards almost as far as Bolzano and has a well-known trail spot in the center in Brixen. The Isarco Valley is also a gateway to the Dolomites. In other words: On mountain bike tours in the region, there is always a wonderful view over to the mighty rock towers. But it's not just the panorama that is impressive: there are trails galore in the region, from the alpine character of the Brenner region to much gentler regions further down.

A good level of fitness is a mountain biker's friend in the Isarco Valley, as it is not uncommon to have to overcome large differences in altitude. Between the valley floor and the culmination point of the tour, there can easily be 2000 meters of altitude difference. For this reason, some cab companies in the region have purchased trailers for bikes and offer quite successful shuttle services for mountain bikers. This is also because mountain railroads are few and far between in the region. However, the largest of them is fully dedicated to mountain biking: The bike park on the Plose high above Brixen is now a well-known destination for gravity-loving mountain bikers.

Getting there

Arrival by public transport

The Isarco Valley is one of the (few) regions in Italy that is easily accessible by public transport. After all, the valley is the north-south connection between Innsbruck and Bolzano and is therefore easily accessible by train. This applies in particular to Brixen, Sterzing and Klausen. The regions outside of these larger towns are often served by bus routes, but it is generally not possible to transport bicycles.

Arrival by car

Traveling to the Eisack Valley by car is almost a no-brainer thanks to the Brenner freeway. The entire region can be reached quickly and easily from Bolzano or Innsbruck. The highway also makes it possible to change regions within the valley in a short time. Anyone staying overnight in Bressanone/Brixen can quickly set off on a tour on the Brenner Pass or in the Bolzano/Bozen region.
