Jaufenpass - Gostjöchl

Wiesen-Trail Eisacktal

The Jaufen Pass between Sterzing and the Passeiertal Valley is a well-known destination for motorcyclists. For mountain bikers, the descent over the Gostjöchl ridge down to Sterzing is particularly worthwhile - one of the longest and most flowing single trails in the upper Eisack Valley.

Description

The ascent up to the Jaufenpass for mountain bikers usually takes place through the little-used Jaufental valley. A small road rides through the long valley and eventually winds its way up to the Borstalpe. A little before the alp, turn right onto a single trail and push your bike up to the "Maria Heimsuchung" chapel on the Jaufenpass road. If you don't want to push your bike or if you are on an e-mountain bike, take the pass road for the ascent, which is quite busy, especially in the summer months. From the chapel, you then climb the last few meters on the road up to the top of the pass. The downhill trail branches off immediately below the top of the pass. The 17er trail takes you back to the chapel and then onto the world-class trail over the ridge high above the Jaufental valley. After the Platschjoch, the trail fun is briefly interrupted by a gravel road before switching back to trail mode via the Gostjöchl. The wonderfully flowing trail leads down to Grigg and then right into the final section to Gasteig, the starting point of the tour.

Message from the Borstalpe mountain pasture owner (end of July 2023): "Due to the keeping of livestock guarding dogs on my alpine pasture, I would like to inform you that the path to the Borstalpe (as described on ride.ch) had to be closed. There is a signposted detour via a forest road to Platschjoch and from there it continues to the Jaufenpass road. Unfortunately, there have been several problems between my dogs and cyclists or hikers recently, despite signs regarding behavior with regard to livestock guarding dogs, so unfortunately I had to take this step.

It is better to ride to the right at the junction at 1560 and cross over to the Jaufenpass road.
From 1760 you enter a large pasture with DOGS ... the farmer said that they can't take a joke ...
If you start the tour in the evening like we did, you'll have no problem with the Jaufenpass traffic and a mega light for taking photos....
Really g... tour !
