Pfitscher Joch Süd
Description
The starting point is the small hamlet of St. Jakob at just under 1450 meters above sea level. From here, a side road leads directly to Stein before you reach the military road from the Second World War (Vallo Alpino). At the time, nobody knew what an achievement this uphill would be for mountain bikers in the future. Initially, the route climbs through cool forest, later above the tree line with breathtaking panoramic views from the Zillertal Alps to the Pfitscher-Joch-Haus. You reach the Austrian-Italian border with its dilapidated border houses and fragments of the Vallo Alpino. At the Pfitscher-Joch-Haus, the highest point of the tour at almost 2300 meters above sea level, there is a great view, great food and always someone to talk to, as the visitor frequency here is quite high.
The descent winds its way south on the 3-path. Initially on difficulty level S3, it is very enduro and all-mountain-heavy up to the tree line. Alternating between stone slabs, turf and hairpin bends, you can put your riding skills to the test in the panorama of the 3000 m peaks. From the tree line onwards, the trail runs at difficulty level S2, but is no less interesting and finally leads to the valley trail, which ends at the starting point. This is the end of a fantastic day tour that definitely calls out for a repeat, as there are rarely so many panoramic views and trails with only 840 meters of altitude.
