Astenberg

Monte Laste (Penser Joch)

The descent from the Astenberg (Monte Laste) over the Penser Joch offers a full enduro tour in the middle of the Sarntal Alps.

Description

The route starts in Pens in the Sarntal valley at just under 1500 meters above sea level. From here, the route climbs the fantastic southern ramp up to the Penser Joch (2211 meters above sea level) on asphalt. If visibility is good, you can enjoy views of the Sarntal Alps and the surrounding mountains. From the Penser Joch, you then push, sometimes pedaling, up to the Astenberg (2367 meters above sea level). Once you reach the relatively gentle grassy mountain, which slopes somewhat more steeply to the east and south, there is a stunning 360-degree panorama.

The trail descent is just as stunning. Directly on the ridge, the trail initially descends on difficulty levels S2 to S3 to the fork in the Astener Höhenweg trail. This trail 14A is then followed before you reach the Penserjoch Alm. From here, take another short uphill section to the Penser Joch and then the 14er trail with difficulty S2 down to Asten. Then take the road back to the starting point. All in all, a very rewarding trail descent, which is almost above the tree line and conveys alpine flair due to the altitude.
