"It was a dream come true for me," comments Stöckli on his monster tour. What would be a nightmare and a goal tour for everyone else makes Stöckli's eyes light up. 230 kilometers, 10,062 vertical meters, 15.36 hours riding time, 3 hours break. By way of comparison: anyone who has completed the big lap at the Swiss Bike Masters or the Grand Raid would have to tackle it again to reach Stöckli's extraordinary tour values.

Around Lake Lucerne

Stöckli's record-breaking tour leads around the whole of Lake Lucerne. From Obwalden to Uri, on to the canton of Schwyz, to the canton of Lucerne and back to Obwalden. He set off from his home in Stans at three o'clock in the morning, alone. Other mountain bikers, no matter how trained they are, are not to be found for such an undertaking. He is already on the Stanserhorn at 4.45 am. "I was a little too early for the sunrise I was hoping for - but I didn't have time to wait for it," comments Stöckli on the first summit. He reaches Ochsenweid shortly before seven o'clock, and two hours later he is on Klewenalp. He later rides via Emmetten and Seelisberg into the canton of Uri to Flüelen and then up to the Fronalpstock. From Seewen, Stöckli finally sets off on the ascent to the Rigi, which he reaches at half past four. So far, he has 8,000 meters of altitude in his legs.

He later reaches Lucerne via the Dietschiberg, climbs up to Fräkmüntegg and rides down to Stansstad. Others are watching the news at this time, Lukas Stöckli is still on the road. The way home to Stans finally leads over the Bürgenberg, where he breaks the 10,000-metre altitude mark. "A memorable point, because from here I could see all the mountains I conquered today," says Stöckli about this section. He makes it back to his family just in the last light of day.

No record planned at all

Stöckli used an ultra-light Cannondale Flash for this tour. "Without this bike, the tour would probably not have been possible. Never before have I climbed so easily on a bike, never before have I ridden up such steep trails on a bike". The plan was not actually a record-breaking tour: "I simply wanted to create a tour on which all the defining peaks of the Lake Lucerne region would be crossed or tackled". But when Stöckli sets his mind to something, it usually has to do with a record. Anything else would probably be too easy for him.
