The trail starts at 2,429 meters above sea level on the Furka Pass - one of the highest asphalted Alpine passes in Switzerland - and rides downhill for around 12 kilometers with 1,060 Elevation loss to Oberwald in Goms. The Furka Pass can be reached by post bus from Realp or Oberwald. Mountain bikers can expect a combination of alpine trails, military and forest roads with technically moderate passages. Views of the Rohne Glacier, the Grimsel Pass and the Goms high valley provide a varied and photogenic backdrop.

Challenges and sustainable planning

The implementation of this project, which was planned by the planning office "Bikeplan" on behalf of the municipality of Obergoms, required close coordination with agriculture and the various environmental organizations. The construction in steep sections and the late start due to the snow conditions until the end of July 2024 were particularly challenging. The planning office "Bikeplan" took on the entire planning - from the creation of the master plan to the building permit process and visitor monitoring. The trail construction was carried out by "Vast Trails", a company specializing in the construction of bike trails. The final, minor work will be completed in spring 2025 as soon as the trail is free of snow.

Touristic potential and sustainable use

Thanks to well thought-out routing, clear signage and sustainable construction, the trail will not only be fun to ride, but will also work in coexistence with hikers and land users. The route strengthens the region's tourist appeal and will be integrated into the existing transport network.
