After twelve months of construction, the new Kirchberg Trail has opened. With a total length of about ten kilometers—8.6 kilometers of which are pure trail—the route runs from the Fleckalmbahn mountain station down to Kirchberg. This expansion brings the region’s network of 360-Degree Flow Trails in Kitzbühel-Kirchberg to more than 40 kilometers.

The new trail exemplifies the region’s long-term tourism strategy. By 2030, the participating municipalities, tourism organizations, and mountain railways plan to invest approximately 1.2 million euros annually in the qualitative development of the biking offerings. The goal is to boost the summer months, improve capacity utilization at tourism businesses, and make the region more internationally competitive as a year-round destination.

The focus is not on facilities for elite sports, but rather on easily accessible and family-friendly offerings. The Kirchberg Trail is therefore designed for beginners, families, leisure riders, and ambitious mountain bikers. A clear route layout and a smooth flow of riding are intended to make the trail manageable even for less experienced riders. Optional jumps and playful elements offer additional challenges.

As the project expands, the region aims to balance ecological and tourism interests. For the Kirchberg Trail, sensitive natural areas were excluded from the route, and pressure on existing trails was specifically reduced. Twelve landowners, farmers, restaurateurs, forestry agencies, government authorities, and the Tyrolean State Environmental Ombudsman’s Office were involved in the planning and implementation. Construction work was primarily contracted to regional companies to ensure that as much of the economic value as possible remains in the region.

The scenic experience is also part of the concept. The trail winds through wooded areas, alpine pastures, and open meadows, offering views of the Großer Rettenstein, the Kitzbüheler Horn, and the Wilder Kaiser. There are three places to stop for refreshments directly along the route.

In addition to the Kirchberg Trail, the existing network includes the Fleckalm Trail, the Hahnenkamm Trail, the Lisi Osl Trail, and the Gaisberg Trail. The offerings are complemented by practice areas for beginners. The expansion plan is being spearheaded by the Bike Working Group, consisting of Bergbahn Kitzbühel, the Kitzbühel and Brixental tourism associations, and the municipalities of Kitzbühel and Kirchberg.
