After a few days in hospital, he is now at home and beginning his recovery. It is still unclear whether an operation will be necessary, but he remains optimistic. With a positive attitude and determination, he wants to get back on his feet step by step - giving up is not and never has been an option for him.

Fabien Barel is one of the defining figures of downhill and enduro sport. Born in Nice in 1980, he made a name for himself in the 2000s as one of the most technically adept and courageous downhillers. He won the downhill world championship three times (2004, 2005 and 2006) and shaped the gravity scene with his analytical riding style and innovative spirit.

After several serious injuries, Barel ended his active downhill racing career, but remained loyal to the sport: as a test rider, developer and mentor - today for the Canyon Factory Racing Team, among others. His passion for technique, precision and mental strength makes him a respected voice in mountain biking to this day. The accident in November occurred during one of these test rides.
