It has long been known that mountain biking is becoming increasingly popular in Switzerland. This is now clearly reflected in the sports awards. Nino Schurter achieved third place out of all ten nominees with a score of 14.34 percent. Among others, he clearly outperformed downhill skiing world champion Küng, cross-country skier Dario Cologna and various athletes from more prominent sports. However, he had no chance against the two tennis players Wawrinka (38.91 percent) and Federer (22.81 percent) in the final ranking.

Jolanda Neff had to settle for fourth place. The election was won by triathlete Daniela Ryf. Neff was also able to leave some prominent sports behind her in the women's category.

In the live interviews on the show, both nominated mountain bikers stated the Olympic Games in Rio as their clear goal for the season. Let's hope that Switzerland turns from a tennis nation into a biking nation after August 20 and 21, 2016.
