With specially designed front and rear racks, Specialized is expanding the capabilities of the Levo e-mountain bike. The racks are designed to carry tools, camping gear, or provisions, making the bike ready for longer adventures. Along with the new Levo 4 X, Specialized is promoting the concept as “Electric Overland”—a form of bikepacking for e-mountain bikes.

Bikepacking has been around for many years. While the scene initially developed around mountain bikes, the gravel boom later led to a massive surge in popularity. Multi-day tours with bags on the frame, handlebars, and saddle have long been part of the standard repertoire for many cyclists. Similar concepts are nothing new on e-mountain bikes either. Trail builders, photographers, and adventurers have been using the range and carrying capacity of modern e-bikes for years to venture further off-road while bringing along extra gear.

Specialized may be demonstrating a keen sense of current trends and catchy marketing terms here. An e-mountain bike with well-thought-out carrying solutions could very well meet a demand.
