Test: Alpinestars Paragon Lite protectors - less is more

Protectors and long tours are always a tricky thing. Many models are big and bulky and take up a lot of space in your rucksack. You often think twice about carrying them with you. With the "Paragon Lite" protectors from Alpinestars, there's no need to think twice as they take up very little space.

First impression

Thanks to the pack sack, the knee and elbow protectors are barely the size of a fist and even fit in a small rucksack. Although they are very minimalist, they comply with the CE protection standard "EN 1621-1:2012 Level 1" for motorcycle protectors. The protectors are made from a thin, breathable stretch material. The foam padding is perforated and therefore very elastic. The small holes also prevent heat build-up.

In use

Elbow and knee protectors are very comfortable to wear and fit snugly against the body. The cuffs have good elasticity without being restrictive, and thanks to the silicone rubber coating on the inside, they don't slip at all. Even after hours of use, they stay in place and you hardly notice that you are wearing them. The Paragon Lite are a blessing, especially on hot summer days, as they don't retain body heat and you hardly sweat at all.

The slim design means they can be worn well with tight-fitting dresses and therefore don't look so dominant.

Luckily, the protectors did not have to absorb a fall during the six-month test period. They meet the CE standard, but it goes without saying that they do not offer the same protection as thicker protectors. But you are well protected against nasty abrasions.

Conclusion

The "Alpinestars Paragon Lite" protectors are hardly noticeable on the body and in the rucksack. They stay perfectly in place even after hours. So better to ride with than without, stay safe!

Recommendation

In spring or fall, these protectors offer another advantage. You can wear them instead of knee or arm warmers to keep you warm and protected at the same time.
