That may not sound very exciting, but it could be key to the acceptance of the new valve standard. Until now, switching to the Clik Valve has always meant buying new pumps or adapters—a hurdle that many cyclists have likely been reluctant to overcome. This universal solution removes that obstacle to some extent. After all, anyone who already owns an SKS pump can retrofit the pump head—called the Air Port—onto many models. Going forward, the Air Port will gradually become standard equipment on numerous SKS pumps.

Whether the Clik Valve actually establishes itself as a new standard no longer depends solely on Schwalbe. The key factor is whether major bicycle and accessory manufacturers get on board. The fact that SKS—a well-known pump manufacturer, of all companies—is now more actively supporting the system is likely to be more than just a new product launch.
