The astonishment at the criticism of the Uetliberg Trail is written all over the faces of the representatives of Grün Stadt Zürich. For them, the "Antennentrail" is a showpiece and the usage concept on the Uetliberg is a model for success. With such measures, mountain bikers are well integrated into the unstable balance of the city of Zurich's recreational forests. Now, of all people, mountain bikers are voicing harsh criticism of "their" trail. The much-used gravel and concrete elements have no place on a bike trail, and many bends are said to be incorrectly designed. The trail is too steep in many places and has no flow. Mountain bikers in attendance also demanded that the Uetliberg cable car, which is currently prohibited, be allowed to transport bikes again.

Many mountain bikers would also like to be more involved in the planning and implementation of mountain bike offers. They are highly motivated to pick up a shovel themselves and would like to do so within a legal framework together with the city authorities. They want more "flowy" trails around the city of Zurich, more jumps, and there are repeated calls from mountain bike circles for separate downhill trails where other users such as hikers would not have access.

For their part, the city authorities explain that the demand for bike transport on the Uetlibergbahn has to be put out of mind. The aim is to prevent out-of-towners from being attracted (as happens in Bern or Biel). On the other hand, they are open to getting bikers even more involved in the implementation. This has already worked very well with the implementation of the pump track. However, the construction of new bike routes in the city is not realistic in the short to medium term.

After the information event, the question remains as to how representative the mountain bikers present were of their sport as a whole. Many of the votes submitted are clearly attributable to the freeride and downhill segment. The demand for bike transport on the Uetliberg cable car should also be seen against this background. The word "fitness bikers" was also used again and again at the event in a slightly disrespectful manner. In the discussion about downhill routes, jumps, shovels and rail transport, these are sometimes completely lost sight of. However, they make up the vast majority of mountain bikers in urban forests, and they are also prohibited from riding on single trails. However, it would be up to the "fitness bikers" themselves to put themselves more in the limelight at discussion rounds like the one on Tuesday evening. For them, a comprehensive solution would be more important than discussing specific measures.The Zurich mountain bikers now want to form an association in order to be perceived as a reliable and representative point of contact. The city authorities welcome such a step, but expect the association to be a representative body that includes all user groups of mountain biking.
