Spotguide Zermatt

Zermatt is not just a gem because of the Matterhorn. In the area at the top of the Mattertal valley, there is a network of single trails that is quite something. Most of them are flowy but require a practiced riding style. More and more flow trails are now being built for beginners. One reason for this: Largely all mountain railroads in Zermatt transport mountain bikers - and there also needs to be downhill options for the less experienced. Important to know for mountain bikers: Zermatt is also traditionally popular with hikers. Therefore, especially in the high season: only ride the main routes at off-peak times and be particularly considerate when riding.

Aim high! The descent from the Oberrothorn is considered one of the most flowing above the 3000 m mark.

One of the great singletrail classics: via the Europaweg and down through the Mattertal to Visp.

Nowhere else is the view of the Matterhorn better than on the Höhbalmen Trail. A must!

Family-friendly is written in capital letters here with the flow trails, for example from Furi down to Zermatt.

The Riffelsee is Zermatt's most famous photo subject - with a trail connection directly from the Gornergrat.

Unfortunately awesome! In Zermatt, the Air Zermatt helicopters have special bikeracks for transporting mountain bikes.

Arrival by public transport

Travelling to Zermatt by public transport is easy: take the train to Visp, get on the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway and ride directly up to the center of Zermatt. Transporting your own bike on the train line is easy. Within car-free Zermatt, the bike is the most practical means of transportation anyway.

Arrival by car

Drive from Visp through the Mattertal valley to Täsch and park your car in one of the parking garages. The only way up to Zermatt is by train, as the village is car-free. Access to the edge of the village is only possible with a special permit. Therefore, when packing your vehicle, pack everything so that you can tackle the last section by train.
