Vidova Gora – Vela staza
Description
The route begins in the small town of Bol. From here, it starts on asphalt and later continues on gravel along the coast, passing countless swimming coves with emerald-green water. You then ascend via winding asphalt switchbacks with stunning panoramic views and a distinctly Mediterranean atmosphere, heading toward the summit of Vidova Gora at 780 meters above sea level. The climb is generally consistent and can be completed relatively quickly thanks to the alternating surfaces of asphalt and gravel, as well as the moderate gradients. Once you reach the highest point of the tour at the summit, the panorama is visually marred by a few transmission towers, but still offers impressive views to the south and north of the Mediterranean Sea, the neighboring islands, and all the way to Split.
The descent begins right from the summit: The trail is consistently rated S2, features S3 sections on loose gravel in places, and winds steadily downward through several switchbacks with great panoramic views. In the middle section, you should keep to the right on the trail, as this route is slightly longer, while the left shortcut turns into a gravel road at about 200 meters above sea level. Once back in town, there’s usually still enough time after this compact tour to enjoy a swim in the stunning bays.
