Bei Bontrager hat man das Recycling im Griff
This waste comes mainly from fishing and shipping and includes discarded fishing nets and ropes that would otherwise end up in landfill or the ocean. Plastix sorts, shreds, washes, separates and dries the material and then presses it into green plastic pellets. These can then be used in the manufacture of consumer goods.
"A handle core is quite small," explains Michael Fitch, Trek's Director of Product for Essentials. "But small things can add up to something big. We believe in Plastix's vision for a circular economy where such materials are not seen as waste and are excited to be working with Plastix to take this necessary step."
The new XR Trail grips are not Bontrager's first product made from recycled plastic, as the popular Bat Cage is also made from discarded fishing nets, but this step represents the extension of this approach to a new product category and sets the stage for the implementation of sustainable manufacturing processes for other plastic bicycle parts. The new range of XR Trail grips consists of three models, with the grip core of each model made from recycled plastic.
The XR Trail Pro is an MTB grip with dual screw clamps and a thicker diameter of 32 mm for more grip surface when things get a little rougher. Each clamp features an aluminum CoreLock construction for secure retention and reliable, predictable performance.
The XR Trail Elite is a robust grip with a screw clamp and aluminum CoreLock construction. The compacted end caps of the grip reliably protect against scratches. The 31 mm diameter offers the perfect middle ground for most riders.
The XR Trail Comp with a diameter of 31 mm impresses with a firm fit and an attractive price thanks to the CoreLock nylon clamp.
The new XR Trail grips are now available through Trek's dealer network.
