Pearl Izumi used to offer clothing for mountain bikers, racing cyclists, triathletes and joggers. However, the Japanese sportswear company is now pulling out of running - and will focus entirely on clothing for cyclists in future.

There are already factory stores for Pearl Izumi customers in Holland, Spain, Austria and France. Now the English Shimano distributor Madison is following suit and is setting up its fifth Pearl Izumi store this fall.

"Better safe than sorry" must have been the motto in the textile department at Chris Sports when they had to mourn the departure of the Pearl Izumi representative in May. This is because Chris Sports is now able to double down in the textile sector with the new additions of Sugoi and Qloom.

In a gradual transition, the distribution of Pearl Izumi is being transferred from Chris Sport to Shimano importer Fuchs-Movesa after 21 years.

As a side event of the Black Forest Ultra Bike Marathon, Europe's fastest sports retailer will be crowned on June 18 and 19, 2011 in Kirchzarten. Any mountain biker who works for a European sports store is eligible to compete for the title.

Pearl Izumi was previously known primarily for conservative two-tone collections or collections interspersed with large prints and very unique designs. For the coming year, Pearl Izumi has found a fashionable yet simple style with the "Launch" collection. Large prints are missing and, like the colors, only appear as subtle design elements. In line with the trend, the tops and especially the shorts are more in the direction of leisurewear. What remains the same is the high quality and functionality of the clothing.

Shimano wants to get into the clothing business in a big way. Quite surprisingly, the Japanese company announced today that it is taking over the Pearl Izumi clothing brand from previous owner Nautilus Inc.

The American sportswear company "Pearl Izumi" is being bought by Nautilus. For 74 million dollars, Pearl, which is extremely successful in the bike clothing sector, among others, is going to the large company, which is primarily active in the fitness and health sector and already owns brands such as Nautilus, Bowflex, Schwinn Fitness, Stairmaster and Trimline.
