In the early nineties, things took off and Flyer built up a reputation that went so far that Flyer and e-bike were considered synonymous. In 2009, an important step was taken for the Swiss e-bike pioneer when it opened its spacious headquarters in Huttwil for administration and production.

Around 75 percent of the output of e-bikes in Huttwil left Switzerland, so it seemed a logical step for Flyer to gain a new German owner in 2017 in the form of ZEG. Triggered by the post-corona turbulence in the bicycle industry, a consolidation process had to be initiated at Flyer, the result of which is now clear.

A development and product management department with around 20 employees will remain in Huttwil, but production will be outsourced to Germany, as reported by several media. Around 150 jobs will be lost in Huttwil as a result of this move.

According to the Berner Zeitung, it is unclear what will happen to the two large production halls and was not discussed when the relocation was announced.
