New Shimano flat pedals: two new grip monsters

With the new Saint and XT pedals, Shimano is expanding its flat pedal lineup with two models that appear similar at first glance. Both feature a wide platform, a concave design, and interchangeable pins, but differ significantly in their intended use.

The Saint PD-G8040 pedal is clearly designed for gravity riding. The large contact surface and high pin density ensure plenty of contact between the shoe and the pedal. This is complemented by a robust construction, including a protective plate on the underside, which supports use in bike parks or on demanding downhill trails. The design is aimed at maximum control on rough terrain.

The DEORE XT PD-M8240 pedal takes a more versatile approach. Also equipped with a wide, concave platform, the pin configuration is somewhat more moderate. Additionally, Shimano has omitted additional protective features found on the Saint model. As a result, the pedal is better suited for trail and all-mountain riding, where efficiency and versatility are the top priorities.

Both models feature robust bearing technology and customizable pins, allowing you to fine-tune the grip to your preference.
