"Herbert" takes to the mountains every year at the end of June on the self-proclaimed World Shovel Day to prepare the ground for the upcoming opening of the season. He is accompanied by bike hoteliers from the regions, specialist retailers and bike guides. Thanks to them, the legendary Bahnentour routes are almost completely rideable at the start of the season; there is only a little snow on very short segments during the first few days. Herbert and 19 friends have been shoveling in Davos and Lenzerheide this year. Background to World Shovel Day

World Shovel Day was launched in 2016 by Herbert, the information and booking platform for mountain bikers. It is based on volunteer work, and the snow is cleared exclusively under one's own steam without any mechanical aids. The "World Shovel Day" takes place every year at the end of June. It is the intention of "Herbert" to enable guests to get through more smoothly and safely on their mountain bikes (or in their hiking boots), while at the same time protecting nature. The snow clearance prevents snow fields from being bypassed with a "free choice of route" across the alpine meadows.
