Spotguide Einsiedeln

The Einsiedeln region is a fantastic pre-Alpine region high above Lake Zurich. The area stretches from Pfäffikon on Lake Zurich to the Mythen mountains high above Schwyz, from Ägeri in Zugerland to the Wägital valley. The topography means there are plenty of trails here, but the proximity to the city of Zurich means there are also numerous hikers and day-trippers. Sensitive and cautious behavior is called for here (as everywhere else).

The single trails in the region are considered relatively challenging and lead through agricultural land due to the moderate altitude. Therefore, you can expect to encounter cattle fences from time to time. On the other hand, decent mountain bike tours can be started here in early summer when there is still snow in the upper altitudes.

Getting there

Arrival by public transport

The Einsiedeln region is well served by the Südostbahn and easily accessible from Zurich or Lucerne. Bike transport on the train is possible without any problems. Einsiedeln is a dead-end station.

Arrival by car

Einsiedeln is located on the doorstep of Zurich, so to speak, and is easily accessible by car via the Wollerau exit on the highway. The Sattel cantonal road from Schwyz leads to the region from the south.
