Obersee-Umrundung
Description
The tour starts in Rapperswil, where you ride through neighborhood streets to the Grünfeld sports field. Now head through the monastery forest to Schmerikon. There are several wonderful trail sections in this forest. In Schmerikon, follow the cycle paths to Grynau and then tackle the Buechberg. A steep ramp right at the start sets the pace: A mix of trails and gravel roads takes you over the ridge. Trails can also be ridden uphill here from time to time, but they are generally never steep. The highlight of the Buechberg is the Cello Trail, which is integrated into the route. In back-and-forth mode, you finally reach the final descent to Nuolen. Now it's time to roll back to Rapperswil. To do this, follow the footpaths and cycle paths along the lakeshore to Pfäffikon and then ride along the cycle route over the lake dam directly to Rapperswil railroad station.

So you can safely skip the north side of Obersee—unless you want to rack up some miles in the spring to build up your endurance. The south side, with Buecheberg, was a pleasant surprise! Next time, I’ll ride straight to Tuggen or Lachen to enjoy more trails from there.
We rode the tour on 5.4.21. But only from Rapperswil to Pfäffikon. The most exciting part is certainly in the Buechberg forest with technical XC trails. There are only a few short downhill sections. They are about S2. Difficulty 3/6 seems exaggerated to me. The tour could also be ridden in the opposite direction.
Rode on 01.06.2020. A very exciting tour. Didn't realize that the Buechberg offers so many trails. The tour leads partly on trails in the opposite direction (is noted in the description, but ATTENTION oncoming traffic!) and could be made even more exciting with other loops. Technical sections guaranteed. The final descent to Nuolen is a real highlight! On the way back to Rapperswil, you can enjoy a leisurely ride.

Beautiful tour with lots of singletrails in the Chlosterwald and on the Buechberg. Not really rideable is a short section on the Buechberg from km 19.0 (ravine with subsequent slippery slope. The bike has to be pushed on two sections). However, you can change to the forest path at km 19.0 (possibly a little later) for just under 400 m. The ride from Nuolen back to Rapperswil is often on tarred roads with and without traffic. Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to combine the single trails on the Buechberg into a nice Buechberg-only single trail tour? And in the Chlosterwald? Suggestions (preferably with .gpx data) are gratefully received at monika@steinsichten.ch
or of course published here in the comments. Many thanks!
