Höhronen Trail-Tour

The Höhronen is magnificently situated between Lake Zurich and the Einsiedeln region. The dense forest hides a plethora of single trails, which have been brought together in this route to create a fun combination.

Description

The tour starts in Schindellegi, after which you ride along the main road to Scherenbrugg and then climb up small mountain roads to Orischwand and finally up to the Höhronen ridge. The ascent covers 440 meters in altitude. The descent over the ridge begins at Wildspitz, the highest point of the Höhronen. The path is interspersed with roots and is a challenge in wet conditions. It rides past the former transmitter antenna and then descends steeply to the edge of the forest at Biberbrugg. The ascent back to the ridge is next. On small roads and at the end on a steep cart track, you climb up to the Dreiländerstein. Now follow the ridge in the other direction and then head down the steep north side of the Höhronen to the banks of the Sihl at Hüttner Brugg. The third and final ascent back to Höhronen awaits: Take the little road to Schönau and climb back up to the Dreiländerstein via Sparenhütte and Chlausenchappeli. Now it's time for the racy singletrail descent to Rossberg, followed by a section on a gravel road until a small trail leads off to the left in the forest. Follow this to the banks of the Sihl on the outskirts of Schindellegi.

There is an information board on the Wildspitz that tells you exactly what you are allowed to ride. For example, the whole ridge "Fuseli" to Pt. 903. Caution: massive drop!

Checked 2023

You are now writing the second news article about legal trails on the Höhronen, but still have this tour with illegal trails in the database. Please adjust!

The entire 2nd descent towards Hüttner Egg is not worthwhile, as the singletrail in the gpx track is no longer rideable (nature reserve, completely overgrown). You can switch to a hiking trail, but still lose a lot of altitude on gravel roads. Especially the last loop down to the Sihl is not recommended at all, you ride everything down on gravel and then pedal 250m back up on asphalt.

Dear authors of this route - the Red Singletrail route from Höhronen to Sparenfirst is closed (nature reserve). And yes, even if you reluctantly wanted to go through the protected area - there is nothing left that is rideable. So - an updated Map would be really great.

Attention: Red single trail route from Höhronen to Sparenfirst closed (forest nature reserve for the protection of capercaillie). Alternative route rides along the access gravel road and official hiking trails.

We rode the loop yesterday. There are no prohibition signs on the trails. But there is actually one on every road you ride up. A few cars came towards us and passed us on the way up. Nobody said anything.

A little tip: save yourself the loop at the end of the second descent. It's just a gravel road down to the Sihl. Turning back at the little hut saves about 100 meters.
