Geissboden

The Geissboden tour is one of the mountain bike classics from the city of Zug and rides up to the Zugerberg and back down again on the single trail through the Eielenwald forest.

Description

From Zug, you climb along the asphalt road via St. Verena to the top station of the funicular on Geissboden. Alternatively, you could also take the train up here. Agricultural roads now ride to Horbach and past the Lienisberg farm. This is where the singletrail descent begins, which initially leads over the "Felsgebirge" trail and then rides steeply downhill on a serpentine trail. Finally, you reach Oberwil via Hasel on a forest road and follow the official cycle paths back to Zug.

Alternatives: From Zugerberg, take the technical descent through the Altenbodenwald forest, then climb past the Maitlischritthütte to the start of the Felsgebirge trail.

Easy flowing tour with very easy root passages. Wonderful view of Lake Zug. Zugerbergbahn currently closed and the bus replacement does not take bikes!

Checked 2021

The "Felsgebirge" trail is currently closed due to logging. The rest of the tour is awesome.
