Goldau-Wildspitz

The Wildspitz is one of the most attractive mountain bike destinations in Central Switzerland. The "southern loop" leads from Goldau to the summit and back on single trails from Gnipen.

Description

From Goldau, follow the main road to Steinerbrg, but then turn left onto the mountain road, which rides up to the summit of the Wildspitz at a pleasant gradient. Only the last few meters are very steep, the rest of the ascent is easy. After a break in the exclusively located summit restaurant, the route leads to the summit of the Gnipen, where the long singletrail descent to Goldau begins. Always follow the ridge to Ochsenboden until a trail branches off to the right into the forest at terrain point 988. This trail, marked as a hiking trail, rides as far as the first houses in Goldau. The return trip to the village center is on the Quartiersträsschen.

Alternatives: There is a descent to the east of the landslide. This is very difficult and only recommended for very good mountain bikers.

Tips:

  • The descents from Wildspitz are very challenging in wet conditions. It is advisable to only tackle the route in dry conditions.
  • The descent through the landslide is not rideable.

Another thing I think is important to note about this tour: The climb is no walk in the park. While the entire route is indeed paved, that also has its drawbacks on hot days because the pavement radiates intense heat. For the first 600 meters of elevation gain or so, you’re riding in the blazing sun; shaded spots don’t appear until further up. Since there are a few steep sections along the climb, it gets pretty tough on hot days—at least on a heavy organic enduro bike.

Went on this tour by e-bike on a sunny Sunday. Most hikers take a different descent, so no problems.
I absolutely loved the tour!
I rate the descent as "always S3", so not entirely easy.

Very nice tour. Were up there on Ascension Day 27.5.22. Very few hikers despite the public holiday. Ascent easy and very ring, as asphalted throughout. Outstanding views. Make sure you have cash with you for the mountain restaurant, the landlord is not so modern :-)
The downhill deserves its name. It is open again throughout, almost without any fallen trees. The Nagelfluh in the upper section makes it slippery in places, even in dry conditions. Some very short sections are not rideable for me. But for me, this is part of carrying your bike.
Relatively many fences with passages for hikers. With e-bikes it could be quite strenuous.
Very nice tour with a technical challenge. Would do it again at any time.

We were up there yesterday. From Obhegkapelle onwards there is still snow. East descent free of snow and little loose scree.
Last section before Goldau from the road closed due to logging and kindly only closed from halfway up the trail!!! We were allowed to push the bikes up again.

The panorama during the ascent and at the summit is simply breathtaking, especially in the autumnal sea of fog! After the summit, however, the tranquillity is over: a difficult descent follows, which is very steep, washed out and blocked throughout. There are also numerous fences (not designed for bikers...) and fallen trees.
The brief tour description on the Hallwag Map sums it up very well in my opinion: "Difficult, but true!
