Rigi Scheidegg

Rigi Scheidegg (Timpel)

The Rigi is a classic hiking mountain, but also offers attractive mountain bike routes. The attractive Scheideggtour rides through the trail-rich southern area of the Rigi.

Description

Start at Arth-Goldau railroad station. Cross the highway on small roads and join the small road up to the Rigi. This rides via Fruttli to Klösterli station, where you turn left and follow the alpine road to Rigi Scheidegg. The last section over the Hinter Drosse is particularly steep. Scheidegg, with its fantastic panoramic views, is the starting point for the descent over the eastern ridge to the Gätterli Pass. The first section rides over gravel roads, then on varied trails up to the pass. A little after the Gätterli Pass, the route climbs once again on gravel roads to Alp Egg. Less technically experienced mountain bikers ride from here via Timpel to Seewen, but those with good riding technique take the trail down to Brunnen. This is steep with tight hairpin bends and quite rough in the lower section - but a very fun ride for experienced mountain bikers. From Brunnen, you ride back to Goldau on cycle paths, but it is better to take the train.

I think this tour is highly recommended. I did it today on my e-bike. I had to get out of the saddle a few times for a few meters. The turnstiles are generously spaced and there were only 3. OK, I found the tour technical. Up to Gätterlipass it was quite easy. From Gätterli to Egg I think it was a gift. From Egg I rate the trail S3-4. I really enjoyed it! Ride it!

Tour done on July 2, 22. Was still a little wet from the day before. Certainly not a tour or descent for eBikes. And the descent is not rideable throughout. More for cracks with hard bones. Incidentally, the eBike can be easily pushed through a turnstile on the rear wheel. No need to carry it.

Hello everyone,
You write that the route is good for e-MTBs. As I have already hiked up there several times, I know that there are some crosses between Burggeist and Gätterlipass. That doesn't seem so easy for e-MTBs, as they would probably have to be lifted over them (25 kg!!). Or do you have a different technique?
Of course, I'm also wondering whether this will also be the case on other tours where I don't know the terrain so well.
Thanks for a reply and have a nice day

My position on this: Lifting the 25KG over a turnstile should not be an obstacle. You should have enough remaining energy and power that is not lost through pedaling due to the battery. If you do, and if you find this unfeasible and too demanding, you have no business riding a bike in such terrain anyway ;)
