Sihltal-Umrundung

Albis

The Albis chain stretches as a long mountain ridge to the west of Lake Zurich. It is ideal for bike tours with many single trails and excellent views of the Alps. One of these is the Sihltal circuit.

Description

From Triemli in Zurich, take the standard route up to the Uetliberg and enjoy the fantastic view of the city center, the lake and the Alps beyond. Later, you follow the Albis southwards and always stay on the ridge - on a mixture of single trails and forest roads. You pass the Felsenegg, the Buechenegg, the Albispass, the Albishorn and finally turn left a little above Sihlbrugg to reach Sihlbrugg railroad station. Here you climb a steep mountain road up to the Horgenberg. If you don't want to exert yourself too much, ride along the Sihl for a while and then climb up to the Horgenberg on a small road. On the singletrail over the ridge of the Zimmerberg, you reach Gattikon parallel to the highway, ride down to the banks of the Sihl and follow it to Unterleimbach. Follow the edge of the forest past Albisgüetli back to Triemli.

As already described, the tour rides through various bans. But even if you ride the route described, I would rate the tour at a maximum of 2 for riding technique.

As described by Samuele, I think it's a shame that the pushing section wasn't mentioned. I even found it easier to carry the bike up the section on my back than to push it. However, pushing is possible for the most part, even if it is steep. The most exciting part for me was the way back on a beautiful XC trail.

However, the tour is not recommended for anyone looking for technical downhill sections.

Beautiful tour, wonderful views of Lake Zurich, Lake Türler and Lake Zug. Push passage with e-bike! Tour goes through various driving bans, which is certainly not conducive to the good reputation of mountain bikers. You have to keep an eye on the e-bike battery.

Shortly after the Hochwachtturm, the last section to Bürglenstutz (highest point of the Albis chain) has to be pushed. Too bad it wasn't mentioned in the description.
The route (trail) through the Sihlwald forest down to Sihlbrugg station is forbidden due to game protection. This means you ride down on the forest road.
