Tamaro Railway finally resumes operation

The gondola lift to Monte Tamaro was not in operation for the entire summer of 2025 because it was being completely rebuilt. Construction work is now in its final phase and operations will start on September 15.

The cable car to Monte Tamaro between Lugano and Bellinzona is very important for mountain bikers: The route from the mountain station down to Lake Lugano is one of Switzerland's great classics and, with 65,000 downloads, is one of the evergreens in the tour database from Ride. Without the gondola lift, the ascent using your own muscle power would be mercilessly long.

The old gondola lift had not been up to scratch for several years and was completely replaced in summer 2025. The narrow, almost legendary plastic cabins gave way to modern figure-eight gondolas. The top and bottom stations are still in the same place.

According to the operators, the Tamaro lift will reopen on September 15, 2025 - even if the bottom station still looks more like a shell a few days before the opening.
