Rheinufer-Trail

Rheinufer-Trail (Eglisau – Schaffhausen)

The Rheinufer Trail leads from Eglisau to Schaffhausen, back on the other side of the river and impresses with its high proportion of flowing single trails.

Description

The Rhine bank tour starts at Eglisau railroad station. You cross the Rhine and follow it upstream. After a barbecue area, the path leads steeply uphill - this is the only pushing section on the tour. The route then continues on the same side of the river, always on the path closest to the bank. Hikers are to be expected on the section through the renaturalized river course to Buchberg, and a considerate riding style is required. Fast and beautiful single trails with few asphalt sections lead to the Rhine Falls. At Neuhausen station, you change banks and start the return journey. Shortly after Schloss Laufen, the route is again characterized by single trails, but now noticeably more technical than on the outward journey. As the distance increases, the trails become smoother, the Rheinau peninsula is bypassed and you finally reach Ellikon. Via Ziegelhütte, the route follows field and forest roads to Rüdlingen, on to Buchberg and finally the final descent back to Eglisau.

Done today, there were almost no hikers on the trail.

Most of the trails are in the S0-S1 range.

I would skip the loop around Eglisau, you buy yourself a bit of trail with an extremely steep, narrow and stepped stretcher uphill after a new trail was built.

Very scenic, but I wouldn't ride it again because of the very easy trails.

Rode today on 13.7.24 in very high but currently unproblematic water levels. Fantastic tour with almost exclusively trails.

I rode a large part of the trail today. However, the trail between Rheinau and Dachsen on the German side of the Rhine is not rideable. There are countless trees over the trail. It is advisable to take the Swiss side.

Please don't ride the tour at the weekend and certainly not at Easter. There are too many hikers and the trail is often very narrow, making it almost impossible to get out of the way... it's no fun.

Don't forget the negative corona test for the part on German territory ;-) :-p

These paths are also popular hiking routes and should be used with care and consideration, especially on weekends. The upper northern section still had many fallen trees at the beginning of March. More to enjoy during the week! We would like to continue to be able to ride our after-work route. Thank you!

Today I rode from Ellikon to the Rhine Falls and back again. After Rheinau a perfect singletrail, up, down, left, right. Later directly along the Rhine... Super. It was wet / damp, there were lots of roots in between, so it was slippery. I think you have to ride the trail during the week. Very attractive and beautiful.
