Küssaburg – Waldshut

Küssaburg

The tour from Eglisau to Waldshut along the Hochrhein is a trail surprise and a great tour that can be tackled early in the year. Thanks to the good public transport connections, the route is particularly worthwhile from the Zurich region.

Description

The area north of the High Rhine seems unspectacular, with little appeal for mountain bikers at first glance. However, the tour from Eglisau to Waldshut is a real singletrail surprise. It starts at Eglisau train station, which is easy to reach from Zurich or Schaffhausen. You reach Hüntwangen on cycle paths and then head into the hilly forests. After a short ascent, you reach the first trail, a flowing root path along the ridge. This is followed by another stretch of gravel road, sometimes asphalted, and this is how you roll almost all the way to Tiengen. The trails are all flowing, with the occasional uphill section, but they are generally downhill. This is how you reach Küssaburg, a magnificent vantage point and the starting point of the beautiful trail descent to Bechtersbohl. Once again there is a mix of trail, gravel and asphalt. This is how you reach Tiengen. If you've already had enough, you can cycle to Koblenz and take the train back to Eglisau or Zurich (via Aarau).

The additional loop that follows is well worth it! You climb up to Bergstadt on a gravel road. If you want, you can take the Dead Sailor bike trail or head straight onto the long, flowing path that leads around Bergstadt. After a short asphalt section comes the final stretch: a great trail descent down to Waldshut. The historic town center is a good place to end the tour. Finally, you roll along the Rhine to Koblenz on the Swiss side of the Rhine and take the train back to Eglisau or via Aarau to Zurich.

Note: The tour is located in Baden-Württemberg with the legal requirement of a two-meter rule. This tour contains elements that do not comply with this regulation. Rather, it reflects routes that are ridden by local mountain bikers. Compliance with the regulations is the responsibility of each individual mountain biker.
