Schnebelhorn Gipfeltour
Description
From Wald, you climb the first mountain prize of the day, the Bachtel. The entire ascent is on asphalt roads. Then there is the first trail: you follow the ridge over the Allmen and later reach the village of Steg. The second mountain prize awaits: asphalt roads again lead up to the summit, this time on the Hörnli. You ride downhill on the north side and later reach Hulftegg. This is the starting point for the ascent to the Schnebelhorn. The descent leads over the Habrüti, crosses the north side of the Höchhand and finally leads over the Boalp to the entrance to the Waldner Tobel. This forms the final section back to Wald.
Attention: Avoid the Waldner Tobel at weekends and on public holidays, very many hikers.
Alternatives: Shorten the tour and go directly from Steg to the Schnebelhorn (via Bärloch)

Very cool tour!
However, I would recommend a slightly different route after the descent to Steg. First on the road via Tierberg to Schnebelhorn. Then the Hammer Trail via Roten to Hörnli (on the road). From the Hörnli, take the descent "down the back" to point 1040; from there, however, cross under the "Chlihörnli" and then everything via the ridge past the Heiletsegg and down to Bauma. This part is quite to very challenging - but the absolute hammer! :-)
Hi Reto
Do you happen to have the track recorded like this and can you send it to me?
You can find me under Philipp Mannhard on FB or www.bike-skills.ch
Thanks in advance
Greetings Philipp
I rode the tour on 29.05.2020.
Very scenic, but the downhill doesn't make up for the uphill. Can't recommend the tour. The Sagenraintobel is the top hammer.
Variant Sagenraintobel:
A crisp after-work ride from Wald via the Höhenklinik to the Farner. The start of the trail is in front of the Farneralp restaurant. The hiking trail towards Ger begins with a staircase, winds its way through the Rüti-Wies, followed by a technical section. The trail now follows a washed-out forest road to the Ger, where the Sagenraintobel begins.
If you're lazy, you can ride the bus to the Höhenklinik.
Please do not ride the Sagenraintobel (Walder Tobel) on a beautiful weekend. There are too many hikers and if there are too many conflicts, it will be officially banned like the Hinwil Tobel!
And the hairpin bends in the Sagenraintobel - near the Höll - are rideable. If you can't ride them, please push the bike and do NOT ride straight down!
Otherwise we are officially only pedestrians there.... Thank you very much for your consideration.
The scenery is very beautiful. The ascent to the Bachtel is pleasant. The descent is very cool at the beginning, but this part only takes about 2 minutes and feels like 150 meters. From then on, the only way back down to Steg is on forest tracks. That hurts the heart.
The ascent to Hörnli is again very pleasant. The beginning of the descent is great again, and again only about 4' and 150tm. The rest of the way to Hulftegg is again only on gravel and wide paths. After the Hulftegg, the ascent is relatively steep. The subsequent descent is super and challenging, but only about 100tm.
Now the ascent to the Schnebelhorn begins. My colleague and I are good bikers in terms of fitness, but we had to push a few times, as the ascent is singletrack and full of loose rock.
The descent from the Schnebelhorn is good and challenging again at the start, with a slightly longer singletrail descent for the first time.
This is followed by about 4 steep (mostly singletrack) climbs, where you can't avoid pushing your bike again. The descents leave a lot to be desired and are on gravel and asphalt. A topsy-turvy world. Push up the trail, down the road...
The Waldner Tobel is forbidden to bikers. This means you have to cover the last few Elevation losses on gravel and asphalt. What a frustration.
This is my first ride tour and a massive disappointment. I can't recommend this tour for bikers who prefer riding down trails instead of pushing up them and whose hearts ache on asphalt descents.
Thanks anyway for your commitment and the otherwise always good tours.
Did you really follow the track from Bachtel to Steg?
First there's the all-terrain trail to Ghöch and then there are a few cool trail sections until the very steep descent to Steg at the end. There aren't many forest tracks, just a few asphalt (kilometer) meters in between
I agree with the comment by mafu.ch_33512.
I prefer to ride from the Höchhand flank towards Farner and Booalp. Several descents are then possible before the Farner and the Sagenraintobel can be bypassed at the weekend.
Why don't you compare your GPS track with the map on Ride? You must have ridden quite a bit in the reeds. I've ridden the trail several times and there's almost no downhill on asphalt. You need a bit of muscle for some of the climbs, but you write that you're in good shape. You don't have to push yourself more than 10' on the whole tour.
A great area with exciting and challenging trails. Absolutely worthwhile!
Caution: On the descent from Habrütispitz, a private path is used at Habrüti, but we didn't recognize it as such. The owners there forbade us to use the path on our bikes. So we continued down the steep forest road and rejoined the original track at about hand. Another alternative could be to continue along the ridge and pass the Habrüti farm to the south (hiking trail signposts, tracks).
The southern bypass of Höchhand is exciting and technically challenging here and there. At the end, the bike is pushed or carried to the start of the downhill towards Boalp. Unfortunately, you then descend on forest and tarred roads to the entrance to the Waldner-Tobel. The route through the Gerwald to Marchstein could be more interesting.
We modified the tour a little and skipped the Hörnligipfel: start in Steg and follow the road towards Hulftegg. Then via Ruehalden and Älpli on the described route via Roten to the Schnebelhorn. Descent as described to Wald and then onto the Bachtel. Via Bachtel-Trail and Hinwiler-Tobel to Hinwil (1650 m uphill, 1750 m downhill, 40 km).
Dear Tanja
Your modification sounds exciting and I would love to ride it. Do you have a gpx for the route? Would be great, as it's a bit difficult to follow pure explanations.
Greetings, Manu
