Forca Rossa
Description
The tour begins in Forni di Sopra, a village steeped in history near the source of the Tagliamento. Numerous stone houses and traditional buildings bear witness to the centuries-old settlement of this area. From here, the trail rides very steeply in sections over asphalt, gravel and concrete ramps to Malga Tragonia. This mountain pasture is gently nestled between the rock faces of Monte Tiarfin and Monte Clapsavon.
After the strenuous ascent, from this point onwards you will only be able to push or carry yourself. The route leads along partly historic paths and the hiking trail to Forca Rossa, which is picturesquely situated in the Dolomites. Once you reach the ridge or yoke, an impressive panorama opens up: the remote, rugged landscape is framed by striking mountain peaks and lends the scenery a unique atmosphere.
The descent, which begins at Forca Rossa, is challenging and should not be underestimated. In the upper section up to Malga Tragonia, the difficulty of the trail (CAI 224) is between S2 and S3. A mule track or old Mulattiera path (CAI 209) from the First World War then leads down from the mountain pasture through larch forests. This section is mostly easy to ride (S1), but the difficulty suddenly increases to S3 in eroded areas. Careful line selection and a forward-looking view are essential here.
Shortly before Forni di Sopra, you pass some abandoned buildings where the route becomes selective again. Special care is required here to protect the derailleur and the heels. Finally, you roll back to Forni di Sopra on a concrete ramp.
Note: The route to Malga Tragonia is also ideal for e-bikes.
