Malga Tartoi: Poas-Trail

In Forni di Sopra, the Carnic Alps offer some interesting trail combinations with breathtaking landscapes. One of these is the ascent towards Malga Tartoi and the descent via the Poas Trail.

Description

The tour starts in the village center of Forni di Sopra, near the Via Nazionale. Initially, the route climbs steadily on a medium to moderate gradient on a paved surface before switching to gravel and climbing the hairpin bends towards Malga Tartoi. The Malga is idyllically nestled in the Carnic Alps, surrounded by larch trees and with an impressive view to the south. A refreshment stop is recommended here before the route continues along a well-maintained mule track below the Col della Dria. This finally leads to Sentiero 207, which runs through the ski area to the top station of the lift system. A shuttle would also be possible to this point, as a bike park is operated here in summer.

The descent begins on a short gravel section before turning into the Poas Trail. This is classified as difficulty S3 and rides mostly on forest soil through dense forest. The trail is narrow in places and has key sections that should not be underestimated. In the upper section, the trail is steep and exposed in places, so you need to choose your line carefully to master the entire section without having to dismount. Finally, you come to a cross-path that leads back to the starting point in Forni di Sopra.

The tour should only be undertaken in dry conditions, as erosion and changes in the ground conditions can have a significant impact on the rideability of the trail.
