Passo Mauria

The Passo Mauria, known for the source and origin of the Tagliamento river, is located in the southern Carnic Alps and offers an interesting trail descent on the southern slopes of Col Rosolo as well as a gigantic mountain backdrop.

Description

The tour starts directly at the Hotel Cridola and initially rides steadily uphill on the Strada Statale Carnica or Carnic Alpine Road through numerous hairpin bends to the Passo della Mauria. This is the source of the Tagliamento, one of the legendary Alpine rivers, which eventually flows into the Mediterranean Sea.

On reaching the pass, you leave the main road and follow a side road towards Val de Palú. This is also where the trail descent begins via the Sessalas Trail, which runs along the southern flank below the Col Rosolo. The trail is classified as difficulty S1 and is characterized by a gentle forest floor and relaxed lines through dense spruce forests. The word flow is capitalized here, as the descent offers a smooth, flowing ride without any technical challenges.

The trail finally joins the road again just above the Hotel Cridola, bringing the loop to a close. An interesting tour away from the hustle and bustle, which is particularly enjoyable in the summer months thanks to the pleasant ascent and relaxed descent.
