Cima della Rosetta

Cima della Rosetta

The grandiose, breathtaking and epic summit Cima della Rosetta offers a hairpin bend massacre with its descent via Col dei Bechi that is unparalleled in the Alps. Prerequisite for the descent: perfect offset technique and S3 riding technique peppered with a head for heights.

Description

The tour starts in San Martino di Castrozza. Here you can choose between the cable car shuttle service to the Rifugio Rosetta and the hard ascent using muscle power. For those who want to pedal/push their bikes to the summit, the ascent is relatively steep on gravel to the middle station. From the middle station, the bike is carried uphill on an old mule track, bend by bend and partly exposed and secured with wire rope. Turn right at the junction towards Rifugio Rosetta and follow the path to the highest point of the tour, the summit of Cima della Rosetta (2743 meters above sea level). The view here is magnificent and you can already see the descent, the seemingly endless hairpin bend trail back to San Martino di Castrozza. You should also take care at the summit itself, as it is extremely exposed and the stones are a little greasy due to the high frequency of hikers.

The descent from the summit to the Rifugio Rosetta takes place in typical Dolomite flair on limestone and on difficulty levels S2 to S3. From Rifugio Rosetta, the route then continues relatively flowy to the hairpin bend trail. Here the difficulty increases to S3 in places, peppered with very exposed passages where full concentration is required. The intermediate sections between the hairpin bends are not the real problem, it's more a matter of moving around on the loose gravel with a slight gradient. This demands a lot from the rider. The route descends in this manner up to an altitude of 1700 meters above sea level, after which the trail becomes more flowy and finally joins a forest road before returning to the starting point.

It should be noted that the tour should ideally be completed outside of operating times or the main hiking times, as this way you have the summit almost to yourself.
