Val Venegia

Forcella Venegia

Off to Canada - in the middle of the Dolomites! The tour through Val Venegia rides in the shadow of the Pale Group through an exceptionally idyllic and unspoilt landscape combined with attractive single trails.

Description

The starting point is the Passo Rolle high above San Martino di Castrozza. And for once, the tour begins with a descent. You follow the pass road towards Val di Fiemme for a while, but then turn right at the second left-hand hairpin bend. On a mixture of gravel road and single trails, you descend into the wild and romantic Val Travignolo. While the mountains in the Dolomites are heavily built up in many places, the signs of civilization disappear here. There is hardly a house left, let alone a cable car. In the valley, you could be forgiven for thinking you had landed somewhere in Canada.

On reaching the valley floor, you first roll up the valley on a gravel road, then on the asphalt mountain road. In this way, you reach Passo Valles and turn left here. A steep path now winds its way up to Forcella Venegia, where the bike rests on your shoulders for around 150 meters in altitude. E-mountain bikers can be supported here by the pushing aid. The effort is worth it! At the top, there is a wonderful view over to the jagged rock formations of the Pale group. The path down into Val Venegia is initially flowing and fun, but becomes a little rough in the lower part because you often share it with cattle and their weight can really put a strain on the path. And as you reach the gravel road at the bottom, you think again: you could be in Canada!

The final section is on the agenda: the ascent to Baita Segantini leads over a deep gravel road - easy to do, but a 300-metre climb. The idyllic setting of the rifugio with its small lake and rocky backdrop would be perfect if it weren't for the masses of day-trippers making the pilgrimage here. They all come from Passo Rolle, our starting point, which is just below. The many pedestrians are probably also the reason why the singletrail down to Passo Rolle is forbidden for bikes. We therefore roll down the last stretch on the gravel road in the knowledge that there are no fewer people here than on the trail.

Conclusion: an exceptionally scenic tour that doesn't offer the ultimate singletrail kick but is a beautiful, less frequented route (apart from the final section).
