Spotguide Leukerbad

Leukerbad is not only known for its hot thermal springs, but also as an excellent destination for mountain bikers. The sunny slopes of the Rhone Valley between Visp and Sierre offer a wide variety of trails and tours. Highlights include the spectacular Torrent Trail, the tour to Varneralp and the fast trails near Jeizinen. Getting there

Arrival by public transport

The ideal way to get to the Upper Valais is by train through the Lötschberg tunnel. This connection is very popular with mountain bikers, which is why there can be capacity bottlenecks at weekends. However, there is also a train line from Brig via Sion to Geneva, the Simplon Tunnel takes you to Domodossola in Italy and the Matterhorn-Gotthard Railway takes you through the Goms to Andermatt. If you are traveling to Leukerbad, take the bus from Leuk train station and bike transport is no problem.

Arrival by car

If you still want to travel by private car despite the first-class public transport connections, you can do so either via the highway from Lausanne and Martigny through the Rhone Valley or via the Lötschberg railroad tunnel with car transport from Kandersteg. From the south, you can also travel over the Simplon Pass, and up the valley you can reach the Brig region through the Goms via the Grimsel, Furka or Nufenen passes.
