At 2998 meters above sea level, the Torrenthorn scratches the three-thousand-metre mark and is relatively easy to reach from the mountain station of the Torrent cable car. In combination with the first part of the well-known Torrent Trail and the descent via Guttet to Leuk, you can combine a rewarding mountain bike tour with a summit ascent.

Description

From the Rinderhütte mountain station of the Torrentbahn cable car, follow a gravel road along the chairlift for the first few meters, then push your bike, and then follow the hiking trail to the Torrenthorn. This mostly runs over a mountain ridge, although there is no clear route. A steep step of around 150 meters in altitude with loose ground can be conquered with a shouldered bike, after which the terrain levels out again up to the summit of the Torrenthorn at 2998 m above sea level. The reward for the exertions is the view of the surrounding peaks and the main Valais valley. The descent follows the same route, with part of the steep section barely rideable. The descent over the mountain ridge is not particularly difficult, but depending on the route you choose, it requires careful use of the brakes. You then cross the slope on a road to the Hotel Torrenthorn and ride on a challenging singletrail through the Lingele valley until you reach a gravel road. Follow this to the right to turn onto the well-known Torrent Trail just before the cattle hut.

Follow the Torrent Trail with its constant ups and downs and excellent views of the Rhone Valley until you reach Alp Teugmatte. A short stretch of road takes you to a hamlet, where the descent rides over first-class single trails via Guttet, Thel and past the Satelitten station to Leuk. The Susten Leuk train station can then be reached in just a few minutes.
