Baltschieder Supertrail

Ausserberg (Visp)

The Baltschiedertal is one of the wildest valleys in Valais and is only accessible to mountain bikers thanks to a small tunnel. This tunnel leads to the start of one of the greatest singletrail descents in the Visp region.

Description

The tour starts in Baltschieder, not far from Visp. The first section up to Ausserberg can be easily covered by post bus. From Ausserberg, follow a narrow asphalt road in the direction of Leiggru. At the ridge, the route branches off to the right and continues uphill on a gravel road. A few meters further up, the real trail fun begins.

The start of the trail rides in a traverse through steep terrain - the path is narrow, technically demanding and sometimes requires a few steps on foot. However, as soon as you enter the denser forest, the path turns into a flowing descent: a first-class trail rides past Raaft and back onto the road that is already familiar from the ascent. You then cross over to the entrance of the Baltschieder tunnel via an idyllic bisse path. This tunnel, which is around two kilometers long, is easy to ride through but not illuminated - a headlamp or at least a flashlight on your smartphone is a must.

The tunnel leads right into the Baltschiedertal - a wild, lonely and spectacular Valais valley. From here, the super trail begins on the right-hand side of the valley, slightly elevated above the Baltschiederbach stream. You pass under an impressive railroad viaduct and then follow one of the typical Valais single trails, which wind their way down to the village center of Baltschieder in the best possible way.

We were able to complete the first section. However, the Suonenweg was still blocked by many branches, so we had to turn back. The masses of snow had severely damaged many of the beautiful trees.
