Lötschentaler Höhenweg
Description
The tour starts in Goppenstein, which can be easily reached by train from Bern or Brig. Follow the main road for a few meters, bypassing the two tunnels on the right and finally reaching the village of Ferden. This is where the tough part of the ascent begins. You climb 700 meters in altitude on a gravel road to Kummenalp. The main part of the route is now complete and you can now take the high-level trail. This is difficult for the first few meters. A rough trail leads slightly downhill, followed by a tricky but short ascent through steep terrain, which is best tackled on foot. Once you reach the ridge, the fun high-level trail begins. It leads down to Lauchernalp, a section of the ascent has to be ridden uphill on a road to Weritzalp, then a top-class flow trail begins. It leads as a high-altitude trail along the tree line to Tellialp. The fun and flow continue unabated, past the idyllic Schwarzsee lake to Fafleralp. The last few meters before the alp lead over a gravel road, but then the trail fun continues. The descent leads down to Kühmad and then to the right of the road to Eisten. In Blatten, change sides of the valley and follow the left side of the valley on a mix of trail and gravel road until you reach the bridge below Ferden. Here you have to climb a few meters before tackling the final section to Goppenstein. This is initially an up and down on a single trail until the path winds steeply down into the valley until just above Goppenstein station.
Tip: Instead of the ascent to Kummenalp, take the gondola lift up to Lauchernalp in Wiler.

Unfortunately, everything between Weritzstafel and Tellistaffel has been flattened. Definitely no more trail! What a pity.
A very beautiful and fairly easy tour. From Kummenalp there are some somewhat narrower and slightly exposed sections. From Weritzalp a very beautiful and, apart from a few root passages, very flowy trail. Whereby trail is almost an exaggeration, the path is very wide and almost suitable for baby carriages and when there are few hikers (as fortunately today) you can go full throttle. The way back is a flowing up and down, but it still costs a few beads of sweat.
We rode the high trail as described on Saturday, August 21, 2021. A firework display of trails.... There were a lot of hikers, but with mutual consideration, everyone gets their money's worth. Sure, you could fly over the well-maintained trails, but then there's no enjoyment. So enjoy and open your eyes to the great landscape.
Very nice

Beautiful and varied tour.
Not necessarily recommended due to the many hikers at the weekend.
